Emergence Brass Band
Monday, August 28, 2017 / 7 PM
Emergence Brass Band is run by Julie Stenberg Zeidel. Ms. Zeidel studied trombone at Berklee School of Music and received a certificate in jazz arranging from Berklee On-Line School and an MFA in music composition from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. The band is an improvisational brass band, consisting of several trombones / percussionists, a tuba, a trumpet, and a drummer. The band has been together for several years and has made a demo of original tunes.
The band’s materials consist of covers of everything from jazz to classical to pop to metal, as well as originals. Core members of the group are Greg Michnay on trombone; Linda Ness on trumpet; Rick Ballew, Julie Stenberg Zeidel, and Maggie Zeidel on trombone / percussion. Recurring guest artists include Joy Judge on Tuba, Steve Alm on Sousaphone, and Jendeen Forberg on drums. All of these individuals play in a number of working bands around the Minneapolis / St. Paul area. We are following the standard jazz tradition of taking material from different sources and adapting it to use as an improvisational vehicle. We have played at The Amsterdam Bar, Jazz Central, and Como Park, as well as other local parks and festivals.
